Kyriakos Papadopoulos Leads 18 Into WPTDS Brussels Finale

Kyriakos Papadopoulos entered Day 2 of the WPTDS Brussels Main Event as the chip leader and regained his advantage late into the day to lead 18 players into the finale

The WPTDeepStacks Brussels Main Event saw record attendance with 584 entrants challenging their skills and luck in a bid to win the prestigious tournament. After three starting flights and one more day of play, the 584-strong field of the event had been whittled down to just the final 18.

Action will resume today at 2 pm local time with the remaining survivors. Grand Casino Brussels Viage is once again playing host to the popular poker series.

A number of renowned poker pros entered the tournament, including three-time WPT Main Tour Main Event champion and brand new PCA Main Event winner Chino Rheem. The player scooped the overnight chip lead on Day 1B of the WPTDS Brussels Main Event, but had a less successful Day 2 and eventually departed before the money bubble.

Speaking of money, the record-breaking field of the tournament generated a prize pool of a little over €620,000. The money was split into payouts for the top 71 finishers, with min-cashes starting from €2,100. Each of the remaining 18 players is guaranteed at least €5,100 from the tournament. As for the winner, they will pocket a top prize of €118,000 and a €2,000 WPTDS Season-Ending Package.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos Leads the Final 18

Greece’s Kyriakos Papadopoulos entered the tournament via Day 1A. The player had accumulated a solid chip stack by the end of the first starting flight and came into Day 2 as the overall chip leader. He ended that second day of action once again as the one topping the temporary leaderboard.

Papadopoulos bagged and tagged 2.66 million at the end of Day 2 to lead the final 18 into the Main Event finale today. He had his rough moments over the course of the tournament’s second day of play, but locked up the chip lead through a late run in the final level of the day.

Papadopoulos has a massive advantage over his nearest rival, with that person being Mohamed Abdou who put 1.985 million in his bag last night. Alexandre Reard with 1.67 million, Joris Ruijs with 1.55 million, and Gelle Samatar with 1.39 million are the other players to comprise top five of the temporary leaderboard.

There are no former WPT champions among the final 18 players. The final holder of a WPT title to leave the tournament was Mike Mizrachi. He departed in 27th place after his pocket nines clashed into the pocket kings of Thomas Sorre later into Day 2.

As mentioned earlier, final day action resumes today at 2 pm local time at the host casino where the remaining players will play down to a champion.
