WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Hammond Starts Today with Massive Opening Event

This year’s WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Hammond stop kicks off with a $777,777 guaranteed event

Another thrilling WSOP Circuit festival is on its way and Horseshoe Hammond in Hammond, Indiana is set to play host to it. The casino welcomes the popular poker series today at noon local time when the first of twelve gold ring events is slated to kick off. The latest WSOP Circuit stop is set to run through October 22.

As mentioned earlier, the upcoming festival will feature twelve gold ring events, which means there will be twelve pieces of one of the most coveted non-monetary prizes in modern poker up for grabs.

The WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Hammond stop will begin with a four-day, multiple starting flight No-Limit Hold’em tournament. The $400 buy-in event will feature a total of five starting flights and those will be played over three days. Day 2, the tournament’s final one, will take place on Sunday, October 14. It is also important to note that the opening event will feature a guaranteed prize pool of $777,777. With that guarantee, the WSOP Circuit is upping its game from last year’s Horseshoe Hammond stop, when Event #1 on the schedule featured $500,000 in guaranteed prize money.

A WSOP Circuit festival would not be complete without its Main Event. The Horseshoe Hammond stop’s $1,700 Main Event is scheduled for October 19-22. It will feature two starting flights, played over two separate days, and two more days of actions. Entries will have the chance to win a share of the $1 million guaranteed prize pool. The Main Event champion at Horseshoe Hammond will be awarded a gold ring, the lion’s share of the prize money, and an automatic seat into the season-ending Global Casino Championship.

Last Year’s Big Winners

Last year’s edition of the WSOP Circuit took place October 12-23 at the host casino. It again kicked off with a multiple starting flight tournament. The event featured four starting flights and one more day of play. It drew a massive field of 2,349 entries who crashed the $500,000 guarantee and generated a prize pool of $704,700.

The top 251 finishers received a share of the money, but it was Texan Jonathan Tamayo who emerged as the victor. The player won his third gold ring from the series and a first-place cash of $101,404. It is interesting to note that Tamayo captured one more gold piece after his triumph at Horseshoe Hammond. He bested the field of a $580 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament at The Bicycle Casino this past spring.

Blake Battaglia from Chicago, Illinois outlasted the 1,247-strong field of last year’s Horseshoe Hammond Main Event. The player emerged victorious to claim his first gold ring from the WSOP Circuit and a first-place prize of $332,020.

As mentioned above, the 2017 edition of the Horseshoe Hammond Main Event drew 1,247 entrants and generated a prize pool of $1,870,500, or nearly two times the $1 million guarantee. The top 135 finishers received a share of the money.
